The Vincent Affair,
with Dutch Invertuals

The struggle will only make me stronger, and criticism, unwillingness and even opposition will teach me more than acceptance.

— Letter to Theo van Gogh, Nuenen, 17 November 1884

Embracing the new and letting go of the norm. Only if you are brave enough to do this can you have any impact and make a unique contribution to your profession. Vincent did it, and not just in his work; it was an essential part of who he was. He was met with incomprehension.

I need to be able to retain control. If it flies off in different directions, it won’t work.

— Jólan van der Wiel

As an artist and a designer he is trying to find ways to break the cycle of his own zeitgeist. Experimenting with the tensions between man and nature. Fathoming the forces of nature, to then manipulate them, creating the prerequisites for a manipulated coincidence. Forging timeless shapes that make you return to a true reality.

A fascinating interpretation of a natural landscape. The ultimate conjunction of a natural reaction and a man-made object. A catalyst to conjure up a feeling that defined Vincent. Go beyond the beaten track and free yourself from your age, environment and repeated patterns.

Film: Daan Bunnik

Exhibition runs from April 1 – October 1, 2015.
